Writing Inspiration

When do you get your writing inspiration? I often get inspiration that wakes me up in the morning particularly on Saturdays when I sometimes get to sleep in. But my muse was whispering to me in my dreams, telling me to get up and write these ideas down. So I did. I didn’t turn on the light or the writing music, I just turned on the computer and started writing.

I write every single day. Often multiple times a day. Sometimes I will jot something down between clients or I’ll work on an Instagram post when a client is late. But I write every single day. A lot of times the words or ideas just come to me. I know that is not the case for everyone. That has not always been the case for me. The more I write each day, even if I don’t know what to write and I jot down my thoughts as they come to me. The more my muse sends me words and ideas.

When I was a freshman in college, the writing floodgates opened. I was a bartender at Lincoln Center Theater. I would be by myself, taking a break once the show started at the Mitzi theater downstairs. Then it would happen, poems started to form in my brain faster than I could write them down. I didn’t have any paper so I took cocktail napkins and wrote as quickly as I could. Once the words stopped I would carefully fold up the napkins and put them in my pockets. I looked pretty weird with fluffy dress pant pockets from all the napkins I destroyed each night. When I realized the words were not going to stop, I got a tiny notebook and kept that in my pocket instead.

There are moments in our lives when the muse is more present than others. Maybe your muse shows up differently. Maybe your muse shows up in your body. Maybe she speaks up in your cues. Your muse is in there somewhere. You simply have to invite her into your life. When do you hear whispers of inspiration? If you want some writing inspiration I have a writing circle coming up Saturday October 19th from 2-3:30 PM CST. Get some inspiration through writing with other Pilates Teachers! Sign up here.
