Pilates is Not Just About Your Abs! Mindset is an Important Too!

Did you know that Pilates is not just about your abs? There is a whole mind body connection aspect of Pilates. You have to think. You have to translate the words into movement in your body. You have to remember things from before. You have to build the connection between your mind and body. You have to practice your mindset just like you practice the exercises.

If you aren’t working your mindset, then you probably won’t get the same results. This is one of the things that makes Pilates challenging. This is why making things small makes them more challenging. You have to work your brain more and I think that helps you get the sweat going. Just like everything else, the mindset takes time. I’m not going to require that you meditate, although I’ve found it to be a supportive addition to my practice. I’m not going to ask you to be peppy or even extremely positive. But if you are open minded and concentrate on what your body is doing instead of what you would rather being doing, or want for lunch, you will get so much more out of it. When you work your brain too, there are so many more positive results to be had.

I like to engage your brain by asking you questions when I teach Pilates. I want you to at least think about what your body is doing and how it feels. You don’t have to answer. If you are comfortable sharing that information with me, I use it to help you make things work better. Asking questions helps you understand Pilates and how it works in your body. Asking questions helps me understand how Pilates works for you. This makes me a better teacher for you. When you ask a question, I know how to explain things better needs work. When you think about what happens in your body when you move you learn more about yourself.

If you are feeling Push Ups in your wrists but you don’t share that, I can’t really help you find a solution. If you don’t think about how your wrist feels when doing Pilates it’s hard to know that there is a better way. And there is! You can get those tips here. You simply have to be open to listening to your body. When you listen you can learn so much about yourself.

When you connect the mind and the body through movement that’s when the magic happens. You can learn so much from yourself and make your movement better. If you want some guidance to connect your mind and body check out my Pilates Membership Group. In the classes I ask you how things feel in your body and give you options of how to make the movement work best for you. You can always ask questions in our private Slack group. And you get to do the classes a few times so you learn the movement and get it into your body. The Membership Group is only open to sign up until October 15th! So make sure you sign up today!
